A Trophy for Champions
Thanks to everyone who’s making a big difference with Pokolm Premiumtools
To coincide with the Men’s World Cup, we’ve created a demo part that’s perfectly suited to the occasion – a trophy. With this iconic part, we’ll show how Pokolm Premiumtools master complex free-form surfaces.
As the national teams compete for soccer’s most prestigious title, the whole world is on the edge of its seat. But no matter which country ultimately lifts the trophy, Pokolm has long been certain who the real champions are: Everyone who performs precision work every day with Pokolm Premiumtools.
Reason enough to dedicate a special demo part to this enthusiasm and, in doing so, demonstrate what teamwork means in machining.
Soccer Fever Meets Milling Technology
At first glance, a trophy seems simple – after all, it’s “just” a shiny trophy. From a machining perspective, however, it involves a great deal of complexity: curved free-form surfaces, tight radii, and transitions that change constantly, as well as a surface that must ultimately have a mirror-like, smooth shine. After all, no one should be bothered by rough edges later on when the trophy is held up to the camera. This is a task that can only be accomplished by a team of several precisely coordinated tools. And just like in soccer, it all comes down to teamwork, not individual talent.
From Blank to Trophy: Five Tools for Teamwork
For the demo part, we relied on a clearly synchronized tool chain consisting of five tools that gradually work their way toward the final contour, each with a clearly defined role within the team.
- Vworx, with a diameter of 20 mm, takes the lead, quickly removing the bulk of material from the blank during radial roughing. With a high feed rate and a steady depth of cut, it clears away most of the excess material in no time, creating the rough silhouette of the trophy. It’s the striker on the team, handling the rough preliminary work.
- Next, a solid-carbide ball nose end mill with a diameter of 12 mm takes over the roughing of the remaining material: It removes the remaining material and ensures a uniform, defined allowance for the finishing operation.
- Next, the mid-range tools come into play: A solid-carbide ball nose end mill with a diameter of 6 mm handles both roughing and finishing, followed by a solid-carbide ball nose end mill with a diameter of 4 mm for semi-finishing.
- The decisive final pass is ultimately made by the smallest tool in the team: a solid-carbide ball nose end mill with a diameter of 2 mm, which handles the finishing operation. Using the finest feed rate, it traces the delicate details and tightest radii of the trophy, giving it its final shine.
Just as teamwork determines the outcome of a soccer tournament, in milling technology, a precisely coordinated tool chain ensures a smooth surface with high contour accuracy – without any subsequent manual adjustments.
